This evening it occurred to me that the 6-month anniversary of our arrival in San Francisco must be coming up soon... then I did the math and realized it was a week ago. That really flew by! Somehow we've been busy: working a bunch, exploring the area, hosting some guests... we also decided to play on a coed frisbee team, and joined a gym (those last two items are not unrelated).

In addition, we've really fallen in love with the area around Lake Tahoe. It's amazing that, nestled in the mountains only ~3h from San Francisco there's this beautiful lake, surrounded by forest, and featuring some of the best skiing we've ever experienced. There are a bunch of different ski resorts there, which we've enjoyed, but what we've really gotten excited about is backcountry skiing, where you hike to the top of some isolated peak under your own power: no lift tickets, no crowds, just the two of us enjoying the forest's quiet beauty as we climb, then reveling in the untracked snow as we ski back down.

We've gone out twice now, and loved it. Particularly cool is the way you can ski down any route your heart desires, with no trails to constrain your creativity, just full freedom to explore all of the mountain's nooks and crannies.
Anyway, enough waxing poetic about the joys of the backcountry; here are some pictures...
