A blog? Seriously!?

Um, yes... so, we're starting this blog.

It's an odd development, since I wouldn't have pegged us as the blogging types--mainly  because I never would've thought that we'd have enough to say.

The big change, though, is that we're moving far away from lots of people we care about, and we want to try and stay connected. And it's always felt like staying connected is a little easier when you know what's going on in the other person's life; not just about major stuff (like where they're living and whether they've had a baby), but also the trivial stuff that's still important, like what they've been doing for fun, or what restaurants they're excited about.

And rather than hope that this happens through lots of individual emails (which never seem to get written), or phone calls (which I always promise myself I'll make... next week), hopefully this blog will pick up some of the slack, so that emails and phone calls can be about important (read: trivial) things, instead of needing lengthy preambles listing all the big things that have happened since the last email/phone call.

So, can we hit the sweet spot of semi-frequent postings that are at least slightly interesting, without falling into the trap of dithering endlessly over each post and therefore updating the blog so rarely that people stop bothering to ever read it? Given my strong penchant for dithering, resisting this temptation will be a constant battle... time will tell.

(Also, one last housekeeping issue: Because of the weirdness of posting semi-personal information on the very public forum of the world-wide web--not that any stranger is likely to stumble on this blog, or if they did, to care enough to read it-- we'll initially be avoiding use of our names, or identifying important things like our home address, etc.)
